Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?

I’m Dr Nerijus Sidorovas, a mathematics tutor with over 8 years experience of teaching. You can find out more about me on my About page.

Which age groups do you teach?

I have experience preparing pupils for their 11+ / 13+ entrance exams, but the majority of my experience over the last 8 years lies working directly with GCSE, A-Level, IB, and Undergraduate students.

Everyone is welcome to enquire about tuition with me, even if they are not on these any of the courses listed, and I will be able to give an appropriate reply based on their personal situation.

What is the cost of tuition?

Currently my base rate is £50 per hour for tuition below Undergraduate level, and for those students at Undergraduate or Postgraduate level the rate is £60 per hour. In-person tuition also costs an extra £10 on the hourly fee.

Please note that these rates are subject to change, but I never increase pricing for current students even if they are continuiting with tuition into a new academic year whilst still on the same course.

How do you teach online?

Lessons take place on Zoom. I use an interactive online whiteboard with students alongside a Google Drive link where resources are uploaded. Links to each of these are provided before the first lesson takes place.

I draw on my experience of over 8 years of teaching to give a student a clear plan on the first lesson to help them benefit from tuition as much as possible, and in the subsequent lessons I aim to address common misconceptions, knowledge gaps, exam technique, and more.

When do lessons take place?

As a tutor online, I have the flexibility and ability to be as accomodating as possible, meaning that lessons can take place at any time that is convenient to both the student and myself.

Most of my busy schedule is during after-school hours, therefore I recommend contacting me as soon as possible to secure a suitable after-school time (if this is best for you).

Does online tuition really work?

I wouldn’t be doing this as a job if it didn’t, that’s for sure. But you don’t need to take my word for it; you just need to look at the data demonstrating that targeted, frequent, and consistent lessons can make around 4 months’ additional progress over the course of the academic year [1], and that private tuition is on a rise with over 30% of students aged 11-16 in UK having received private tuition in 2022-23 [2]. In the current educational landspace under current policy where the teaching workforce is significantly shrinking [3], tuition is no longer an optional luxury, but instead a necessity.
